Fashion Revolution Week is approaching (22nd-27th April) and this year’s theme is focused around ‘think globally, act locally’, so we thought this was the perfect opportunity to get out there and speak about Kidching, its ethos and its mission.
Kidching was founded around the ethos of sustainability, and not just for kids clothing – but for all of their items, including toys, electronics, furniture and travel systems. We all know how quickly kids grow out of things, but instead of adding to landfill and fuelling the fast fashion brands, Kidching offers the opportunity for a second chance of life for these items as well as giving parents huge savings on preloved pieces.
Our founder, Sarah, recently dropped into BBC Radio Nottingham to talk all things preloved, becoming a business owner and what’s next for Kidching.
‘I’m so passionate about the bigger picture and where I want this to go – for families and for communities local to us – and we want to add that extra special touch to make us different from Vinted and eBay with the charity side of it, the community feel to it, the support that we give and that personal touch. We want to be different, we want to give something back to families and make life a little bit easier.’
A little bit about Fashion Revolution Week
Fashion Revolution Week was founded in 2013 and while its main aim was – and is – to raise awareness around the social and environmental impacts of the fashion industry, it has grown to encompass the ethos of sustainability and how we can, and should, reduce waste.
‘When you have kids, you don’t get a manual or a rulebook – you’re kind of learning as you go! With the app, we’re wanting to give a real community feel to it and support parents by giving advice, hints and tips as well as highlighting the reasons why we should recycle and resell our items.’
